Madras in 2005
When I was born on May 15 1938, the Mangalore town was
administered from Madras city. Mangalore was the head-quarters of
the South Canara District which was included in the Madras Province.

There was no need for me to visit Madras until the time I had to get a
visa to travel to U. S. A., as an Exchange Visitor in 1968. By then I had
practiced as a GP in Mangalore for about 18 months and also had a
family. My wife and daughter Preethi got our visa to travel abroad from
the U. S. Consulate in Madras. Madras was renamed by the Tamil
Nadu government sometime after 1990.

When I began to shoot the video outside the U. S. Consulate on the
morning of 27 September 2005, I was noticed by an armed sentry
stationed on the flyover situated across the street and the security
guards at the Consulate were probably called to stop me. My wife was
with me. A security guard came near me and stopped me from shooting
the video. What little I have from that clip has been included in this
video.

The duration of the video is only a couple of minutes. No tourist spots
other than the railway station is included in it.
