OUR ITENERARY

We, Mohan and Lalitha, booked air tickets on Etihad Airways on 4th July 2012 and then applied for Visitor Visa to U K very next day. We had a Visa Interview and got the Visa without any objection. We got a SIM card for use in U K and also foreign exchange that was estimated as required. We were to leave Bangalore on Wednesday 12th September 2012.
I and my wife went to the Bangalore airport by taxi from our home in Padmanabhanagar at about 12 midnight. The plane was to depart at 4.45 a.m. There was a stop and change of plane at Abudhabi. Flight time from Bangalore to Abudhabi was 3 hours 45 minutes. We spent 1 hour 30 minutes at Abudhabi airport. We left Abudhabi at local time 8.30 am. We were in the plane in flight to London for 7 hours 45 minutes. We reached London at 1.15 p.m. in the afternoon on 12th Sept 2012. We had lunch in the plane.
Our immigration process at the Heathrow airport took about 2 hours. After we were allowed to enter U K we took a taxi at around 3.15 pm and went to Rickensworth (a part of London) where we had booked a hotel room at Long Island Hotel Victoria Close through Laterooms.com.
We had booked one room for 2 adults for 2 nights 12th and 13th. Our room was clean and comfortable. We went out to eat our dinner before starting our tour of London. We had about g5 hours from 5.30 pm to 10 pm.
We had sound sleep in the hotel room. The price of breakfast was included in the hotel room rent. We took our breakfast at the cafetaria of Long Island Hotel. After breakfast we returned to the room, washed and took bath. We went out at about 9 am to take a bus to tour London. We ate our lunch at an Indian restaurant at about 1 pm. We toured again for about 3 hours. We had been invited by Doctor Uday Hegde and Tricia Hegde for a dinner party at their home.
The dinner and party at Doctor Uday Hegde was fabulous.

"GMC DHOOM DHAMAKA"

PUB CULTURE of Birmingham, England

"Pub culture" is very much a part of life in the U. K. While in Binghamtom we were invited to visit a pub in the evening. Commonly the customers buy their favourite alcoholic drinks and some eatables from the menu. Those of us who did not have the habit of drinking alcoholic drinks, preferred to buy soft drinks and juices.

PICTURES OF THE EVENT ON 14TH SEP 2012

After the dinner party at the house of Doctor Uday Hegde, we left for Premier Inn where we had been allotted a room for two of us. We spent the night in the clean and comfortable room at the Inn. Early in the morning we had breakfast at the cafetaria of the Premier Inn. We returned to the room after breakfast. We washed and took bath and rested until about 11 am when we went to eat our lunch at the cafetaria.
Registration for the conference started at 2 pm. in the afternoon. The programme was to start at 7 pm. Therefore we had time for a short tour of Birmingham. Some of the delegates went to the pub. At about 4 pm we boarded a coach from Premier Inn to travel to the Hilton Birmingham Metropole for the event
The even went on till 12 midnight at which time we boarded the coach again returned to Premier Inn and to our room.
During the get-together event, there was an elaborate programme chalked out by the organizers. Docto Vitthal Gudi was the chairman of the organizing committee. He was jokingly called the Lordballs of Birminghamshire.
There were welcome speeches, announcements of educational events during the conference, a short skit about the nostalgic journey down the GMC freshers' days and finally the signature peformance "Doom Dhamaka," captured on videos mentioned below down the page. "Disco Diwane" was an entertaining item.
Dinner was served after a few toasts were raised in memory of some of the departed GMCites in UK.

LONDON ATTRACTIONS

PHOTOGRAPHS SHOT BY MOHAN SHENOY

London is a very ancient city and its people have led the world into an age-old governance system known as democracy that was started in India many centuries ago. India later adopted monarchy with the basic governance being left to the local people. It was a mixed system with a dynastic royalty and landolord system. Land was the primary reason for people to fight with each other because it was from the land that food grains were grown and where the cattle grazed. People depended upon land for their life and so to keep land in their possession and use they had fight for its ownership.
The kings were owners of the land inside the kingdom and the people that lived off the land maintained the society by giving a portion of their gains to the king.

Visited London tourist attractions during day-time on 14th and 15th September 2012.
