Page 4- MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE
OPINION OF DR. MOHAN SHENOY

I always have difficulty to comprehend time. Yesterday appeared to have passed at a high speed but now the next hourseems to be crawling.

I was a science student and Economics was distant to me until I read a few books. Economy reflects nation's resources and moral integrity.

Economics is as good as Ecology, which is Earth Science and not just money and commerce. I want to think Economicsas ABCD of moral living.

I was like any other adolescent, later a young man was a prey to vices but I found smoking cigarettes or chewing paanare the least harmful.

If there was ban on smoking in 1950-60s, like it is now, then I might have taken up some other vice such as drugs, alcohol, etc., as is now.

I found drinking 4 cups of coffee or tea with/without sugar is worse for health than smoking ten cigarettes a daybut all of them help man.

Rise in use of drugs and alcohol is a counter-product of ban on smoking as the drudgery and boredom of 8-hr workneeds recreation for youth.

When I think I am the smartest then a bolt from the blue hits me that there are so many people on earth that considerthemselves as smarter.

For me, smoking a cigarette (a habit not an addiction) helps in dieting, in moving bowels well, in refreshment and relaxingin-between work.

Experimental animals are made to smoke more than 40 cigarettes a day to detect effects, is it not? Smoking like many thingsis double edged

.A danger of smoking is fire coming off an unextinguished butt or a lighter, match box, etc. Another is chronic effect onrespiratory tract.

60 years from now there won't be any tobacco product available in the market. Man won't stop looking for other means, like liquor and drugs.

At present there are millions of helpless innocent smokers on earth; the anti-tobacco lobby is shaming them. Governmentsare buckling under.

Anti Child Labour lobby is also shaming honest hard working innocent poor urban children engaged in work for their ROZI-ROTI and education.

I am only 1 among millions of people on earth, only 5 ft 3 in ht and 68 kg in wt but I pride myself that my mind spans the entire universe.

After reading about living conditions in the past couple of centuries in India, I find that there have been changes in life forthe better.

My mind can picturize a lot of scenes by imagination when I see through my eyes, read books, newspapers; watch TV etc.hear through my ears.

My mind can make me happy, make me feel tense, feel afraid, become devotional, recall events I saw or I did before and build my personality.

I had a MWC (Mind-Wisdom-Conscience combination) of parental and ancestral cult at birth. I had to adapt to the modernociety as I grew up.

I say, "Mine is the Truth;" you say, "No, mine;" he says, "No, you both wrong. Mine is." The Wise says, "You fight. The winner's becomes the Truth."

I look like one person but my mind is multi-faceted especially showing two persons; one that has animal instincts and the other human morals.

Repeat the slogan at every bend and it will become a hymn hard to erase, without a question whether it is true or falseand for all to sing.

My motivation to live has been a woman all my life, be it the mother, sisters, wife, daughter or granddaughter in spite of any impertinence.

My eyes mistake a rope for a serpent but my ears recognize the roar of a tiger unmistakably. I sift information and select; yet I go wrong.

Any public property is not mine and therefore it is not right for me to maintain it. Abolish public ownership and then see how town shines.

It is not possible for me to order people around to keep their surroundings swatcha and clean like I do. They say, "mindyour own business."

When it comes to maintenance the recurring expenses for it have to be provided, which if I ignore then I am ruiningmy property on purpose.

Private (for the Public): Being a husband and a provider I am all powerful but in front of my wife should I become just plain dust the way she decimates me?

I am lucky to get help from unexpected quarter but I have to spot the source and encourage it to help me, nay make a fervent appeal for it.
The Government and the wise people must direct the youngsters by suitable Structure of Education towards goals that bring prosperity to all.

The present system of 10th class as Matriculation or School Leaving class doesn't allow for diversification earlier and creates "drop-outs".

By terming youngsters who left school before 10th class as "drop-outs" we are making it all worse for them and pushing them down further.

Grading our curriculum in such a way that schooling is unbroken till 10th class while 8th is more convenient hampers freedom of choice.

The present Structure of Education forces children into the 9th to 12th classes wherein a large number of students can not get through.

New Structure of Education doesn't mean stop after 8th class. Every student has a chance either to chose the courses that are meant to prepare her/him for a career.

Make 8th class pass the major stepping-stone (New Structure of Education), after which students take up study in courses that they fit in.

A Certificate of completion of a course by post-8th class students will enable employers to hire them as trainees/apprentices for 1-2 years.

If Govt., declares passing 8th class as the end of schooling then millions of youngsters will begin training for the career of their choice.

New Structure of Education proposed eliminates 9th to 12th classes from most of the career courses by making 8th class the end of schooling.

A majority of careers chosen by youngsters do not need subjects taught in present 9th to 12th classes, which only dislodge their ambitions.

When I had reached the 8th class, I was 14 years and receptive to career guidance like all youngsters of that age, from parents and others.

I, like everyone else, was not aware how important it was to begin early my pursuit of a career, supported by my parents and teachers alike.

With only one or two children, the parents can focus better on their child's career, starting at age 14 and select one that is most suitable.

At the age of 14 a child is anxious to achieve and wishes to prepare himself for his future mainly by looking for support from his father.

System of Education available in the region determines the career chosen by the child, the father or the mother and not merely the ambition. The government decides the kind of system of education for schools, which prepare the child in taking up a career most suitable for him/her.

Ordinary people normally would send their children to local schools that adopt the government system of education and are easily accessible.

There are many careers such as priests and other religious offices for which the regular schools do not provide path, education or training.

Indian Constitution gives freedom of religion; does not promote any particular religion and therefore religions are not part of
curriculum.

'Morals ' was a subject included in the school curriculum but religion was never made a subject to be taught and
examinations conducted in.

Language(s), arithmetic, basic science and basic social studies are the main subjects that are included in the curriculum in all schools.

Making a 14-yr old child go through andstudy for many years after his 8th class without a definite career in sight is an unhelpful outcome.

All kinds of occupations could become welcome careers and provide us financial security and happiness in life if planned and pursued early.

Earlier we decide on our life’s career better could we decide our place of residence and style of living thus gaining control and security.

The main purpose of deciding on a career early is to get the child think about his future independence and looming responsibilities in life.

The 8th pass being sufficient for most of the skills and occupations diversification of education and training may begin with the 9th class.

Management of the adolescent by the parents is as tricky as of toddler but the situation differs owing to change in child's way of thinking.

To keep 14-yr old away from vices and bad company it is useful to firmly advise him to take up education and training for his future career.

A 14-yr old is at the right age for making him love and respect his country, culture and tradition and allowed in nationalistic activities.

There is a high point in life of a child after 8th class when he/she and parents decide if they select self-employment as the career or not.

A 14-yr old girl would be wise to listen to her mother and other older women regarding her future career, as she would herself be a mother.

Wise parents make a list of careers for their 14-yr old to select from. The child then would work harder and with determination towards it.

Parents are directly responsible till 14 but later it is the school, friends and the government that intervenes to influence the child's ID.

Government's influence is uppermost since examinations are conducted and degree necessary for child to take up career is issued by Govt agencies.

Diversification of courses starts from 12th class onwards at present, forcing students to delay choosing of their career by 4 years in maze.

Since about a hundred years, the Indian 14-yr old child has been forced to wait for another 4 years to begin career education and training.

Parents, especially the mother, would want her 14-yr old child to live a happy life for which he/she selects a family oriented occupation.

It takes time to change the norm but an 8th pass 14-yr old may be permitted to join ITI-like training institutes to begin his career quest.

Smart parents treat their 8th pass 14-yr old with love and respect because he or she is going to be the future torchbearer of the family.

Smart parents put their 8th pass 14-yr old on a track to spend the next 4 years in building the blocks for a career education and training.

Even MBBS or BE could be the career options for an 8th pass 14-yr old and the focus would provide the child an aim to cling on and get busy.

Let 8th pass be the new school graduation from where the young one will embark on a planned, parent-approved and self-chosen career option.

14 years of life, love and activity since birth forms a big chunk of lifespan and passing 8th class is an achievement equal to merit medal.

Up to 8th Class be common for all careers and 8th Pass the standard Graduation following which be Specialization towards the chosen career.

My Shiksha Suthra; 1st Graduation: 8th Pass; 2nd Graduation 10th Pass; 3rd Graduation 12th Pass; 4th Graduation Degree.

Structure of Education that will create a workforce of skilled men and women ready to work in farms, industries and professions is needed.
In the Digital world, the Non-Netizens that is the computer illiterates will lose their ground even if they are otherwise well-educate.

I won't know if my colleague, friend, relative, comrade, neighbour, etc., get offended when I write or say something that I know is a fact.

Time, Surroundings, Social features, etc., keep changing. So, I stop reminding myself of any wrong-doings of anybody to keep hating them.

I was made to learn so many things in which I was not interested during childhood and later. My tries at self-education expanded my wisdom.

Giving gifts is not an easy job because the gift given must not only be useful but also reveal the personalities of both giver and receiver.

Feeling insecure is my inborn defensive character. Only my experience and MWC (Mind, Wisdom, Conscience combination) helps me overcome it.

My face is a tool to show friendlyness or enmity by smiling or grimacing but often I put on an appearance to suit the occasion and people.

Elderly people: a burden on society. Not all, but many. Pension amounts paid out by governments, corportns., are huge. Product very little.

After children are fed, educated, got a job/business, got married and moved, then the parents are left with surplus to fight among themselves.

Peace of mind is not meant for the young. In my youth I was constantly agitated to acquire knowledge, skills, popularity and stood in front.

I have to get used to properties and values these days, as every single word or phrase I create could be my valuable intellectual property.

Anything can acquire a sale value if I find a buyer. One who creates a demand for his merchandize will get the best price for even a scrap.

The world as we see it today is the result of the toil of millions of humans; for some it is most liveable, pleasant and for some it is bad.

The most confusion I got into was when elders advised me that I have rights to work but not its rewards. I always eagerly awaited my payday.

I would not succeed in building up an amicable atmosphere with my neighbour if the latter is by all principles against my very existence.

I have learnt not to dislike a person or group that belongs to me and my country even if they disagree with my actions and motives, often.

Language is man’s strongest tool and I want people to know my language but I always try to learn other languages whenever there is a chance.

Welfare benefits must be available to those who deserve them but I would never like to be a beneficiary of welfare handout if I can help it.

New Structure of Education proposed: Shiksha Suthra or Shiksha-Su. Agriculture, Animal husbandry, Textiles, Commerce, Languages, Humanities, Arts and Crafts, Basic Sciences, etc., 9th onwards.

Government's first step to restructure education: Declare 8th pass as School Leaving (Matric) level and as First Graduation (Not Drop-outs).

If youth is not engaged with a career by the age of 14 years then the youth will drift into unpredictable adventurism like an untamed horse.

Lucky are the parents who agree among themselves and make up their mind as to what career their child who is turning 14 should follow up.

In making up mind as to the career for her child turning 14, the mother often can not think right, being overprotective and extra-cautious.

My latest book is "Amgeli Arthavyavastha" (Our Economy) in Konkani language Kannada script for your review: www.amazon.com.

Economy of any country depends upon the opportunities its population finds to harness the available resources for use on a permanent basis.

Parents are at a loss to know what to do if an 8th Pass 14 yr., old child not study well in the 9th class. Allow them to take up a safe job.

By refusing to allow 8th Pass 14 yr., old take up a safe job, India is denying itself a large human force from contributing to its GDP.

We fell into the trap well laid by competitors abroad that raised the bogey of child labour when they found our products were nosing them.

Power of a woman is hidden behind her engaging appearance but it increases with her age and ultimately makes her.

A person, ignorant of processes of life/death may commit suicide to achieve a vengeful objective but he won't live to see if he succeeded.

I am rich and powerful because the society let me be. After I looked after myself now it is time to help my family, relatives, friends, etc.

The world cannot now deny India is really rich and powerful with Modi government utilizing the nascent greatness of India, such as in Nepal.

I might be rich and powerful but when I help others with money and material I will be careful not to humiliate them for being in distress.

No new law is needed to define Secularism as it is beyond definition and its meaning comes out of its practice. My book in Amchigeli Konkani with Kannada scrip "Secularism" available with Amazon.

Practicing Secularism is a means of adjustment, consequent upon need to overcome disputable issues holding back progress.

Never mind what others say so long as I have faith in the correctness of my work. Defeat comes because I dither and doubt my aim and reason.

When I want to giveaway (because I am rich and elderly) then, I feel, my wife and children are not eligible. They should stand in the wings.

The fact that more than 120,00,00,000 people enjoy freedom, etc., in India as a nation is itself a great triumph. Bharath is here to stay.

Death and destruction are sad events but they also create opportunities for the survivors. See my book "The Sense of Vacancy".

Most of what I post in the social media impacts a small section of people, a section much larger than I am, a sand particle on the beach.

Time is out of control which fact I learnt before it was too late. For me to act next, my time arriving is as slow as 60 seconds/minute.

I face conflict of interest when some one close to me speaks against and objects to what I truly believe in with full faith in its aptness.

I fail to understand how even the most faithful would assume that any prayers would be answered positively if expensive gifts were offered?

What is true today may not have been true yesterday and may not be true tomorrow. Truth is relative. Deviations in truth are hard to notice.

I make the most of what I have today such as my home, education, neighbourhood, and not harp on what I had in my past. I look to the future.

In the Constitution, Equality is not based on birth, titles, etc. Even descendants of past rulers enjoy only the benefits of own labour.

I fool myself if I try to treat everyone as equal. I feel at home with people of my race, religion, language etc., by my tribal instinct.

I feel if any organization through their representative asks for a donation for their social welfare is a form of begging. If the donation is tax-free then it is helping the nation; spending money for the extended family is different.

After retirement I did not wish to do the same thing I did before retirement, because I was getting enough money in pension. I had no commitments and no obligations. I didn't wish to follow others. I spent money to finish it and also enjoy.

My photo (image, picture, figure or statue) does not reveal any of my qualities and emotions unless it is accompanied by a title or a note commonly written by others. The description might be in praise or in derision and either true or false. For a dead man only the photo exists.

I wait for the right time to arrive. I push the days and dates until the mangoes ripe, so to say. Pushing the days and dates requires patience and not get into any adventure, suffer an accident and derail. We can do only so much In life and our further progress follows naturally.

I was told that a patient of TB becomes more intelligent and smarter even before the symptoms appear. They remain so even after a complete cure. The organism like in the form of BCG, might be useful not only to immunise but also to kindle brain cells for knowledge. True or false?

I was always eager before to see a clean road and footpath near my house and everywhere everyday all days, but I knew that it was only a wishful thinking and never to be realized. But now, after our Hon'ble PM took the initiative I have been ready to bet that it will happen soon.

NCC stands for National Cadet Corps. Only college students can join this military-like training course In India. I enrolled in NCC in FYSc class in RNR College Mumbai in 1959. In NCC I wore uniform, marched to a band, handled new firearm, attended a camp and adjudged 'Best Shot'.

A very large crowd of people collecting on streets in support of a "cause" wakes up the authorities and it becomes a challenge to the latter as to how to deal with the situation. Often the 'cause' is detrimental to existing thoughts. The confrontation could become a path breaker.

I have been making mistakes through out my life. As I grew older and older I made all kinds of mistakes but my mistakes never stopped me from continuing to live a comfortable life. Because, I learnt from my mistakes, boldly got over hurdles caused by them and I never looked back.

I believe in the benefits of immunization (you don’t believe but there are people who are not serious about getting their children immunized) and promise that those children who got at least the basic immunization will be healthier and live to celebrate their eightieth birthday.

God can not help us if we do not help ourselves. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. We can not do everything by ourselves. We need help from all quarters to be able to manage our life. One of the ways is to obtain information about.

I will not abandon my safe haven (where I live) until and unless I am given a notice to vacate by the right owner. I don’t run away from difficulties nor will I go under by loud scolding and false innuendo that irritate like a continuously barking dog. I have my responsibilities.

My mind or any human mind can study only a limited field of a picture and not the big picture in one single imagination. For the mind to study the big picture the mental eyes have to roll over all the fields of the big picture, and also interpret it using knowledge and experience.

In a democracy the numbers are important because the democratic nation runs on the rule of the majority. Does conversion of people from one religion into another change the demography? Yes. The majority of people voting for a particular issue.

I am thinking why there is no unity and equality in the world. May be because times and places being different affect each man's actions. A large number of scriptures and philosophy texts have been blaring out to get united and not fight with each other since ages and even today.

I think people see only the outer layers and the undercurrent characteristics are naturally missed. Beneath our masks there could be an expert cheat or a noble compassionate and brave human being. If at all I get bounced by a crook and a double crosser I can only laugh at myself.

A passive smoker is a scarecrow, the one who is within 3 feet from a smoker and gets smoke blown on his face, for 40 cigarettes at one stretch. Read my philosophy regarding this habit of smoking. I find that drinking coffee or tea is more harmful.

When someone close to me spreads vicious lies about me among my relatives and friends, by calling them on the phone or by writing virulent letters to them, and abuses those who associate with or support me in my activities, I simply ignore the issue and pretend to be unaffected.

How would I forget that I am bound to time and place and understand the limits to which I can reach in realizing my dreams and passions? Nature is a lot stronger. What I attempt to do must fit the prevalent time and place and expand along the apparent natural unexplored openings.

If the PM of a country undertakes to give up food (never happened before) for a day then it is a very serious matter for its citizens. What is the issue that is so important as to give up food? Any mother would immediately feel sorry and hasten to rectify if a son is so serious.

When someone close to me spreads vicious lies about me among my relatives and friends, by calling them on the phone or by writing virulent letters to them, in spite of knowing that I am the only provider, then that someone can't be anyone but an idiot. Yet, I continue to provide.

It is my choice of course but do I learn to operate smartphone and stay ahead and enjoy the benefits of modern technology even though I am a retired person? I beg or borrow to buy one but am I ready to spend that money? A smartphone is the most useful gadget to remain independent.

No one listens to me. Nobody seeks my advice. Although I am one of the few oldest people among my relatives and friends, no one wishes to disturb me by asking me questions about their problems if any. I too am not any smarter and am spared of demands on my intellect. Plain bliss.

It is easy to say that we love each other to bring peace in the world. But love is irrational, spiritual and ambiguous. Life is more complex for love to be a panacea. It is justice rather than love that is the healer. Justice will punish the bad and reward the good.

I think there are animals in the garb of humans (haivan). They become animals when there is an opportunity to show their animal instinct, but otherwise they are normal. Their parents love them, they enjoy human rights, live as humans in the society. They commit murder, rape, etc.

It is quite normal for the citizens to be outraged when they come to know of the heinous incidents of murder and rape. India is a vast country with an enormous population. The government is more than capable and fair in dealing with the cases. There is also a committed judiciary.

Talking about tradition, the world has not been religiously refined, but only scientifically advanced. Since time immemorial there have been bad people and good people.  The bad people also learnt about religion but they did not get reformed.

When I find a news item with a headline that is misleading and provocative, then I get furious. But soon I realize that the particular newspaper has limited circulation and not many people read it. Any news headline is not the voice of the public but only that of the publication.

Accidents are unexpected events and commonly they are referred to the auto accidents that occur on the road. There are some accidents which are good and one example is the sudden fire accident that occurs in an old building with no one inside.

Elections bring out the awareness of the citizens regarding their own responsibilities and rights. Citizens now know why they have to get their names registered in the Voters List. Those who expect money in return for casting their vote are wrong, harming themselves, and stupid.

Justice will prevail even in a democracy, even if bad people try to subvert its principles such as liberty, equality and fraternity under its democratic constitution. Secrecy might take the upper hand for a while but democratic governments are public institutions open to probe.

Many people have stopped using their surnames to make it more convenient to get work done in offices, market places, schools, colleges and other institutions. Names have undergone changes during these historic upheavals in the past in India. Please visit

Do you know that in the beginning there were no newspapers? All the reporting was done stealthily. Rumours were in circulation and facts were twisted so to suit the rich and powerful? All the native rulers were dependent on loyalty-shifting spies? Patriotism was region-specific?

"Don't ever touch a journalist, even with a barge pole especially the female of whatever age." This is the lesson learnt by a VVIP recently. Some reporters hate a political party so intensely that they make a mountain out of a mole hill and their pack of links join them blindly.

I make my life easy and happy by repeating that which made me happy on a similar occasion before. I do everything better by repetition, whether it is my personal issue or a public matter, so long as it has been beneficial to me. This way I blend myself into nature successfully.

I try not to repeat those of my actions that I undertook in the past and found inappropriate and against the welfare of either myself or other. Some of those were my follies that resulted owing to the circumstances, my inexperience or behaviour and acts of relatives and friends.

The rains can fill up the fields, fill up the water-tanks and lakes, get stored in the water-wells, and run into the soil to get stored on the rock-shelves below. The snow on the top ofmountains is the result of precipitation from the clouds.

Life becomes interesting to those who believe in the benefits of the smartphone. For those who think only about its drawbacks the wonder gadget is a menace. I adjust the additional cost by cutting down on the use of the older utilities. I do nothing wrong by owning a new s-phone.

Most of us are concerned about the future of India because of the formidable problems, which are being constantly reminded by the media. But looking at progress in last four years towards national security, business, finance and agricultural growth Indians have gained confidence.

"Sab ka Vikas (transforming all citizens into modern civilians) is a daunting task, because we are talking of 125 crore people in one go. Transforming all of us so diverse a people is a long term goal that takes a few decades to happen; involves change of mindset and lifestyle.

Elderly people develop hearing loss very slowly and often blame others for not speaking loud enough or speaking nonsense. They blame the phone for low tone volume. They keep changing the phone. Also they refuse to accept the disability; do not seek medical help unless coaxed to.

For entertainment, I prefer to read a story book rather than watch a video or a movie, because In the latter the sound and its effects produce tension in the mind. Visual depiction of a violent scene for example with voice and background music is unpleasant for an elderly person.

I think now is the time to keep out a lying politician from the group of honest politicians. It is not easy to identify lies that are hidden in verbiage but when I find a statement to be an obvious lie then I ignore it and demote the person from the pedestal of honor and respect.

Circumventing the strict ban on advertisement of liquor some newspapers publish articles on consumption of spirit. They don't say 'prohibition'. In stead they say 'dry spell'. They glorify pubs as a culture and call it 'famous'. Drinking alcohol is 'kick back with a cold one.

'Elections have been held again and again since the first one in 1952 in India. Initially the ruling party discouraged registering voters suspected to support the opposition. Then secret manipulation of voters' list to remove those likely to vote for opposition was undertaken.

When a man survives this complicated society for eighty years he has a right to be jubilant. He feels triumphant. While most peers have died, he finds himself on the top, looking around him with awe, the youngsters enjoying or suffering, like he himself did, all those long years.

Nature will not permit a mother to lose her way once she gets pregnant and until she delivers the baby. She is assisted by it in every possible way to provide anoffspring to her clan. The mother is forced to look after the offspring and the nature provides the emotional support.

I have been a bad boy, but fortunately I was given a chance (by who else but the nature and the society) to reform every time. I was smart enough to choose reform and as time passed I stayed away from bad habits. I fortunately saved myself from being punished publicly until now.

I know that somebody close to me dislikes me intensely but I have learnt how to tolerate the foul bad mouthing. I treat such scolding as barking of a toothless dog. I ignore the person totally and take no action of any revenge. I might be a respectable man but often I get abused.

Is there a moment that is auspicious or inauspicious? For convenience the families among the Gowda Saraswatha Brahmans preferred the afternoon hours for marriage since daylight was considered preferable for the invitees to attend a function.

Today is my birthday. I was born on 15th May 1938. I turned 80 today. Many of my friends and relatives have specially wished me. I have received text message from my banks. But I was overjoyed when I received a happy birthday text message from our beloved Hon'ble Prime Minister.

The pseudo secularists contend that Indians should ponder important questions relating to democracy, rule of law and public culture. I say that the pseudo secularists should study the Indian Constitutionfor answers to these questions.

I think the first step we take is a step of hope and confidence. When an elected leader takes oath of chief minister of a huge state such as Karnaataka, we support whichever person takes up the responsibility. He needs the support of the people; An Opposition may wait and watch.

If we follow the tradition and convention as much as possible then not many people will oppose us. But if we do so we often lose out on what we intended to do. Therefore we must not hesitate to break a convention if that helps us to achieve our objective. Tradition and conventions are not sacrosanct.

I don't tweet anything that I wish to communicate to a person because the tweets are for the public and what I tweet will not remain private. I use other free facilities such as email and SMS, WhatsApp, etc. But by writing and publishing a book I would be in touch with the world.

I don't quote others such as the ancient prophets, age-old authors, past scriptures, historical men and women etc to substantiate my opinions, standings, beliefs, thoughts, judgements, etc because I have my own conviction that I have formed through out my life. I value them most.

If I act according to the past norms and ongoing traditions and ignore my beliefs, my intelligence and my wisdom then I would be doing injustice to my conscience. The present circumstances are more important to me in carrying out my duties and responsibilities, but I do no harm.

Most of my peers do not get to see my tweets. Any other person might see my tweet only by chance. Those whom I follow and those who follow me are most likely to see my tweet. And not many people follow me nor I follow many people. Yet I get to honestly express myself by tweeting.

Modalities of federalism are stated in the Constitution. Indian Union is made up of states and union territories. The Panchayath is the smallest local government. Every governmental body is formed of elected citizens. The person getting highest number of votes takes up the rein.

Coalition government is formed with a hope that it will last for its given period. There is no harm if it rules honestly and refrains from corruption and misgovernance. Even if it fails to produce positive results, it is acceptable if it doesn't make the people suffer hardships.

The state government is an extension of the central government and not totally sovereign in the Indian Union. The people in a state elect the central government also. The taxes paid are shared between both. If the state government dares to misbehave the Center will have to act.

Although the state legislature looks after the affairs of the state including collection of taxes and preparing the budget, the law of the country are agreed upon by the parliament at the Center. If the state fails to follow then the secretaries warn the state cabinet to rectify.

The party with the larger number of legislators would get disappointed if it is side-lined by the smaller strength in a coalition government. The power is on the basis of numbers. The smaller partner getting Chief Ministership does not balance in the face of a dominant number.

'Vande Matharam' is a song written in the nineteenth Century and used by the Indian fighters for Independence to kindle the patriotism of the citizens. It is not a prayer. The meaning was appropriate to reaffirm our love for the land we live in.

If someone dislikes what I do then there will be a 'manasthapa' (mental heat). If this dislike is followed by personal confrontation then there is need for an arbitration by a third party. The next step is physical face-off, followed by police complaint, file FIR or a court case.

There has always been 'man chases woman' syndrome among the homosapiens (the species to which the modern human beings belong). It is not new to find a boy seeking a girl to fulfill the natural desires, but his knowledge and wisdom restrains him.

It is true that we are 'each one to oneself,' no doubt. But no one can lead life all by himself. Each one of us should contribute to the people around us so that they feel benefited by our participation. If I work not to cheat but to enrich the society then I am very much secure.

Drinking alcohol is supported by doctors, lawyers, engineers, Western educated officials, partying people, etc. The beginners are encouraged, often by parents. Open smoking is prohibited but drinking is a fashion. If smoking were not banned then drinking might be less. Who cares?

I think it is not right, to blame a tenant if he dismantled the floor tiles, the door frames, the electric fittings, the bathroom accessories, plants, trees, etc., when she vacates the premises for any reason. I did it when I vacated after I closed my business. My owner liked it.

When I closed my business, which I had started in rented premises and conducted for many years, I dismantled every furniture when I vacated. This helped the owner to restore the property to its rentable state by minimal renovation and the new tenant to renovate to suit her needs.

Over the last 250 years nations of the world have one after another adopted democracy to form governments. Monarchy if any is only ceremonial. Even communism uses election to form governments. Now there is no alternative to democracy, with a 4 to 6-yr term for the winning party.

Anything I do must first conform to 'nature' right from the beginning. Every participant who helps me will do her best if I don' force upon her anything that is against her 'nature'. But I got to flex myself to resist temptations, by which 'nature' tries to make me lose focus.

Which is better, a homely mother looking after her child at home or sending the child to a nursery school? What if the parents choose the former and admit the child in the 1st class directly? One child families don't take such a risk. A bold mother and a willing father can do it.

Which is better, a mother looking after her child at home or sending to a nursery school? For first five years of its life, child looked after at home will learn what mother trains. But anti-child labour activists will forbid such a freedom. They love it if children go to school.

What I learnt over the years is that I can not get everything that I desire. Most of the time it is the incompatibility between me and the desired thing. That is why one person can not be like another. I will not do many things with which I am not comfortable. My persona matters.

"You have the right to remain silent" is a common instruction delivered to suspects soon after arrest in most of the civilized countries. This is to prevent extraction, by torture, of confession in custody. Criminal Procedure and practice reflects moral standing of the Republic.

To experience the terrifying speed with which some government buses are driven is akin to a ride in a ‘giant wheel' in entertainment park; only difference is that the riders in the former do not expect an accident and fall to a premature death and that the latter is really safer.

Transport vehicles are not built for excessive speed, which fact young minds don't fathom. Youngsters are thrilled by the speed but the vehicles give way and roll over. If the mind is affected by alcohol or drugs then driving is out of control. Suicide. The survives are helpless.

Suppose my grown up children are settled abroad. Normally they are supposed to be independent financially; which means I am not obliged to help them with my savings. It should be other way round. How do I convince my partner who insists that I save and also remit money to them?

I have discovered that the characters in the novels published in the past year or two and especially the college students drink alcohol liberally but none of them smoke cigarettes. Smoking is out. Drinking is in. Novels of yesteryears had many smokers. Now, they openly get drunk.
I remind myself that I am not living in the ancient times, nor in the middle ages, nor in the past. I am an actor and I have to play my role on an entirely new stage in front of a new audience. There are laws that I have to follow and my ancestry as adapted to the present times.

You ask, why do I write books. I answer, O I write because I have enough time to spare. I have studied the language in which I write. I know how to use the key board and the software. I have a lot of ideas that I wish to put down in writing. I get some mixed pleasure out of this.

I always wondered why the passing marks was as low as 35%. The student who got the prestigious seats or high-ranking jobs passed with marks close to 100%. Some examinations were held to either pass the candidates or fail them.No  examination Is truly the determinant of learning.

Leak of question papers is not a big issue. Even leak of questions and their answers together does not affect the proper examination of the students. The students' competence to write the answers even by copying from the leaked papers, I believe, is sufficient for testing them.

Theory is fleeting but practice is material. Following the leader is by an individual but leadership is of the masses. If I can't win a fight with the leader then I join the leader or become a leader myself and gather my followers. Followers want material and not just the theory.

What I tweet reaches potentially to everyone who opens the application. I do not assume that my tweet would escape the eyes of those who live abroad or some other place and I am safe from criticism and unfriendly retort. I am careful not to write things that invite such reactions.

I have not read the rules and guidelines on posting my tweets but I accepted them while signing up. The Twitter application are free to publish my tweets in any page they wish including the home page and even block it if necessary. Therefore my tweets fully comply with the norms.

It is a privilege to belong to the country of your birth and residence, and claim rights under the Constitution, such as travel across, claim benefits from government, get your body buried or whatever within the country.

Wearing 'janivara' (sacred thread) over bear shoulders is symbolic. I got my 'Munji' ceremony at 14. It is not for exhibition. The three threads represent my 'sankalpa' (resolve) to keep good habits by 'action, speech and mind'.

I believe that starting a manufacturing company is as noble a deed as starting a school, establishing an orphanage, building a temple, a public hall, catering free midday meals in schools, etc. A manufacturing company provides jobs, maintains and feeds a town, supports research.

I believe that starting a retail store is as noble a deed as starting a school, establishing an orphanage, building a temple, a public hall, catering free midday meals in schools, etc. and working hard to successfully run the business honestly is test of my ancestry and goodness.

Many of the careers are boring. Those who work in the manufacturing fields find repetitive actions at the machines getting on their mood and turn them into restless lot. Any career in which we work honestly and sincerely is bound to be boring. Bad habits titillate. So be warned.

I am curious to know about her or him. Where is he now? Is he or her well? What is their story? Where did my great grand parents live? What are the events in the lives of my parents, my aunts and uncles, my brothers, etc.?

Strict vigilance of the Election Commission officials have prevented bogus voting and fraudulent names in the voter lists. The awareness and responsible behaviour of the election officials have prevented loading of the rolls with false names.

Everyone is busy with his or her occupation except those who have retired and have not re-engaged themselves with some kind of part-time job or consultant job, volunteering, favorite hobby, etc. Those who while away their time watching TV or lazying around also claim to be busy.Yes!

I post my opinions on the

Twitter
I have realized that I got to identify myself with a certain group, may it be a religious, communal, professional, ideological, political, etc. Membership in such a group is automatic based on my place of birth, of residence, my educational institute, my profession and my belief.

It is only seven decades since present India became a reality and throughout this period there was a lingering doubt in the minds of all people that India may not run. But since the last four years there have been many positive developments, which assure me that India is working.

I have dreamt to have peace of mind someday with hardly any bad news as I open the newspaper or switch on the TV in the morning, but it has remained only a dream. As an observer, I have found that every story has a villain even if the hero is all powerful and has good intentions.

In my experience of life of so many years, I have come to realize that there will always be 'evil' forces along with various "good" powers in the world, no matter how much I try to set things right; there will always be strife and push-and-pull between the 'evil' and the 'good.'

Whether in the name of Islam or Hindu, or any other religion, the practice of sacrificing animals toappease gods is not acceptable to the modern mind. There is a choice to either introduce our children to non-vegetarian food or not.

I can express my thoughts umpteen times but will anyone heed them? Listen to them? Agree with them? Except when I extol them to some of my contacts? Our thoughts bring solace to only ourselves. Others have their own ways and means to solve their problems and often they are right.

I have no doubt that the smartphone is now a dire necessity. Those people who learn its use can enjoy life better. Investment in a smartphone is a priority like landline phone was in the past. The smartphone empowers women, children, the weaker sections, the sick, disabled, etc.

I am very much convinced that the destiny that we talk about our lives is only partly in our hands. About 50% of what happens to us, depends on the environment, the government policies, the attitude of our neighbours and the society we live in. The rest depends on our initiative.

I don't believe that our future is pre-destined. What happens is not already determined as is believed by many. Our government policies, behaviour of our neighbours, the environment, economy etc., shape the course of life. Our family background contributes to brighten our future.

There are a number of diet specialists (dieticians) who have been taught and teach others that breakfast is the one meal no one should miss. Breakfast is the first food that we take after a long stretch of rest and sleep.

I had a chance to become a politician like everyone else. Those who take up political science as subject of study in the college and get a degree are not better qualified to become politicians. Even a matric pass may become a politician and later on a minister in the government.

I believe that the authors need not use bad words, dirty four-letter words, swear words, etc., even if the characters are expected to use them, as in stories of college students or of officegoers. Bad words are used in real life; bad language in any book is certainly indecent.

There are Hindus who do not belong to RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, or the Bhajrang Dal. There are all castes and creeds of Hindu people who are not connected with any so-called Saffron Brigade or the Sangh Parivar. But still they are Hindus.

Hindus are a very large group. Claiming it to be the oldest religion is of no consequence. Because the religion has reformed itself over the years and it is now as modern as new. In a democracy groupism or demographic number is counted.

Me: "I think so."
Voice: "Who cares what you think?"
Me: "May be one or two people who read what I think."
Voice: "Is it not a waste of your labour?"
Me: "No. It helps me to unload my thoughts like in a diary. I have opinions to give. My opinions are those of a common man and some common demands.

Everybody knows that pressing the button on a EVM machine is done behind a screen and therefore it is like the secret ballot. This enables the voters to choose their preference without any fear or obligation. This action of the voter decides which party forms the next government.

My anticipation has never been unrealistic. I plan things in such a way that my anticipation gets fulfilled. This is because I do not rest on the shoulders of other too much. None will eventually work exactly like I anticipate. I am willing to compromise. I accept the end result.

Caste Wars are coming! Watch out! Few people realize that there can not be any reservations without mentioning the castes. In other words, we can not eliminate casteism from our country until reservations are provided.

It is impossible to give up instinctive behaviour. For most people including me, vegetarianism is an instinctive need. I keep myself away from a kitchen where meat, fish, fowl, or any other non-veg food is prepared. I find it hard to work and live abroad. I love to live in India.

In the past the parties managed to include many names that were bogus and fake and there were no proper identification at the polling booths. A different person prodded by the political party workers would cast the vote.

It is a different kind of festival, the voting day. All of those who have attained 18 years of age and got their names in the Voters' list are invited to enjoy the unique privilege of being a participant in the formation of the next State government. I am one of the participants.

Elections are huge exercises involving a very large number of people and EVMs. Apart from deployment of a large number of security personnel an equally large number of dedicated civilian staff drawn from schools, colleges and government offices are appointed for polling duty.

When I watch a bird sitting on the roof I notice that it looks all around it as if to make sure that it doesn't miss anything such as a surprise attack by a predator. Also it looks for food. We humans also need to look around us for danger both within our home as well as outside.

Indians have an efficient Election Commission that has the experience of conducting all kinds of elections. Free and fair elections are being held regularly in India. Booth capturing and other similar offenses are being progressively prevented. Voters are getting more vigilant.

Praarabdha (praa-rab-dha) is fate. 'It is praarabdha that determines our life'. This is the concept in Hindu style of living. Who do we hold responsible for what we go through in life, good or bad? Who is accountable for our well-being and happiness?

If I can't help others because of my own financial, physical, mental, or any other adverse condition then no one will blame me. In such a situation it is me who needs help. I can't remain silent or feel shy to ask for help from people around me.

I have grown up by copying people whom I observed. I learnt all kinds of 'how to do' by looking at others doing it and practicing. I often failed to reproduce the product exactly as others but what I did was most of the time better than others. Always there is value to our work.

I am observing the intense anti-tobacco campaign going on in the world. In India the TV channels are loaded with adds  & news items proposing removal of smoking areas also. Passive smoking is being condemned. Those who succumb to this will not know what pleasure they are missing.

For my own safety and security I comply with the law, rules, regulations and various guidelines laid down by the government. I am bound to abide by the accepted routine practices where I live and work. Where I am free to choose, I follow my conscience and lead a honourable life.

If fire does not stop burning, water does not stop flowing, wind does not stop blowing, and many other natural things continue to do what they are expected to do then we can not stop living through the days and nights. For example, rise with sun and milk cows on time regularly.

Tobacco is bad. So are coffee and tea. Alcohol is worse. Opium is worst. Consumption of any is a bad habit. Alcohol causes addiction. Renders a man severely ill. Tobacco is habit forming. Not addiction. Any kind of smoke around us, not just cigarettes, results in passive smoking.

The 10-day farmers' strike is a blessing in disguise. People will learn how to change their food habits. Restaurants will pickup alternate recipes. Markets will clean up hidden dirty corners. New alternate business start ups get a chance. Farmers see garbage on their door-steps.

There are event managers, I know. There are now people who assume to be protest managers. Educational qualification is not a criteria. Employees are bound by a contract and do not receive regular salary. Workers must be willing to get arrested. May get promotion to membership.

Sanskrit channel of Doordarshan TV is an example of the government's policy to give opportunities to as many linguists as possible to develop their favourite language. All languages are adorable. All Languages help each of us to enjoy speaking with people who speak the language.

I think for a long time man depended on rubbing stones to produce fire until one day the match box was invented. Keeping burning embers at public places for daily distribution to homes was discontinued. Practice of fire sacrifices producing dense smoke became only theoretical.

The newspapers do not say 'bar' but use a sophisticated term 'watering hole' to make the place inviting. They don't say 'prohibition'. In stead they say 'dry spell'. Drinking alcohol is 'kick back with a cold one.' Appealing and inviting. This is how the ban on advertisement of liquor is circumvented.

Exchange of goods by barter ended when gold coins came for exchange with anything including land and buildings. Banks, exchange agents, notes, and credit cards have revolutionized the money scenario.

Our dreams and desires help us to plan our future. If the plans are for my own benefit the outcomes will satisfy me. If I am planning for my countrymen then I will have to watch their reaction. They will support me and let me finish if they are my friends regardless of outcomes.

The moment I finish a project, I feel like looking out for another; one that I wanted to do since a long time. I can not wait to begin the new project but first I make sure all the requisite materials and tools are available; especially finance. I will fail if I start unprepared.

History is what is written in the books. The rock inscriptions and other findings are liable to be misinterpreted. Schools and colleges should keep away from teaching history as a subject in languages and science. Teach history to only those students who opt to specialize in it.

If someone spreads lies against me I will ignore him. But if the newspapers and TV channels, as well as other media, publicize those lies again and again then I can not ignore him. I have to employ all resources at my disposal and refute him until the truth reaches all concerned.

When workers go on strike the production stops. Stocks of goods are not thrown away. When farmers go on strike not only production stops but also the stocks are thrown out on the road. There are no remedies. Problem is unwieldable. Everyone brace yourselves for unknown calamity.

There are classifications of both crime and punishment so that different kinds of criminal activity are awarded less or more severe punishment. Yet punishments have not ended crime. There have been both criminals and law-abiding citizens right from the beginning of civilization.

I don't come forward to advise anyone unless one asks me to. I don't consider myself to be wiser than an ordinary person. One has to analyze the question and look at the problem from all angles before suggest a solution. Also I leave the final decision to the responsible person.

HOW FAR CAN WE STICK TO OUR TRADITION? Nowadays, our children are not brought up in closely knit protective environments like before. But they are raised as if they are our foster-children turning them into unguided and drifting youth.

Many times it happens that what I enjoy doing becomes a very bitter pill for the person who lives with me and who is sad that I don't listen to her/his advice to refrain from doing those things that drain my money and give me nothing except that I enjoy doing those costly things.

Money is only a tool by which we get our work done. One way to be happy is to have an adequate bank balance. For many people even the most satisfactory bank balance is inadequate. They vow to acquire a bigger balance. They miss the opportunity to enjoy life through wise spending.

Sometimes we prepare food without heat. Hot freshly cooked food more often than not is healthy. But before the advent of cooking gas or electricity, the wood fire cooked food was thought to be tastier.

I think the phrase 'filthy rich' was coined by a left-leaning reporter. Being rich can never be "filthy." Most of the rich people give away to charity. Many of them contribute to build new schools, public halls, temples, hospitals, orphanages, oldage homes, i shelters, etc.

I am of the opinion that the interpretation of a word rests on the cultural, educational, financial and racial background of the interpreter. But more important is the familiarity with the language which comes from reading books and listening to people's lecture in that language.

"Second class citizen" is accusation and not fact. I don't think there is a second class citizen in the Citizenship Act defined. In practice however there is discrimination and to avoid such a feeling among the targeted people specific laws are in place. Hope they are effective.

I am not ashamed to let everyone know that I belong to the GSB (Gowda Saraswath Brahman) community and that I speak Amchigeli Konkani language, which binds us together. I feel that the present Central Government is non-discriminatory.
Do people working for the government consider proper safety from public electrical installations is a priority? If a live wire is hanging along a street does it need immediate attention? What is the procedure in place for such emergency to be tackled by the concerned authorities?

Praising someone doesn't cost us much, but condemning someone is a responsible act. If the condemnation is based on true facts, then it might be good idea, but condemning someone falsely is a crime. Those who listen will judge. True facts have to be separated after investigation.

Everyone of us assumes two personalities; one inside the confine of our residence and the other outside it. I am responsible for what I do in my residence including how I take care of my health and habits. Outside my residence, I am supposed to be well-dressed and well-mannered.

There are instances where some of the fruits containing certain enzymes cause nausea and diarrhea in susceptible individuals, appears to be due to some of the pathogenic bacteria over-powering the normal organisms. Because, broad-spectrum antibiotics work well in such situations.

I am yet to be patient enough to wait for the nature to solve my problems. Nature solves all problems, but how? Time, Sir/Madam. It is time. Time will take its own time. Time will either alter, repair, replace or destroy the problem. I watch, intervene if I can, but often I wait.

My wisdom is my own property. To put my wisdom into words I need expertise in the language I wish to express my thoughts in. It is not easy to form meaningful sentences without a certain amount of mastery over the language. Much easier to quote a past author, a past intellectual.

NoMoney matters everywhere, especially in promotion of useful products. Spreading falsehood against a rival product that comes from another country is often reported as a genuine news item. There are no morals to be followed in international trade. It is called healthy competition.

I believe that I am the wisest in present circumstance and in subjects that concern me. Surrendering to any religion is evidence of Man's inferiority complex. It is I who decides what the truth is after I have mulled over my knowledge and experience. I am ready to face the world.

Truth is, I believe, not what was stated in the past, whatever the claim is upon its truthfulness. I agree that the Truth changes as it gets refined by new information. Not right away, but after it is discussed extensively, by intellectuals and put into practice for generations.

In a democracy numbers are most important. How many Hindus are in India and in the world? When I say I am a Hindu, it is very important demographically. Someone might claim that I am also an atheist on another stage, but I am counted among Hindus.

Love is a soft weapon, but justice is a shield. Love is animal instinct, but justice requires thinking. Justice is far ahead in evolution. Love happens instantly, but a wise one waits for justice to appear on the horizon before acting on the instinct and making a fool of oneself.

Who remembers how, in 1950s, we drew water from deep well with a pulley, rope and a copper pot, carried to the bathroom, filling two large copper pots fixed over a mud stove, each holding about 250 litres of water, the front pot heated with firewood. Never felt any inconvenience.

Every period of time, since the beginning of civilization, Man never felt fully satisfied. Even now one isn’t completely satisfied with life, and in future too, will've plenty of reasons to be frustrated even with an advanced life style provided by the government and the society.

I don't know why I do not ask anyone's comments or opinion on my work, if they do not come out volunterily. My work even that which I do for others is almost always funded entirely by me. I do not accept contributions and donations. I reimburse everyone that gives any assistance.

I am of the opinion that decency and indecency are observations and carry any value only after the observer raises a question. The resultant harm from an indecent talk or action determines the reaction of people observing it. If there is no harm then it is conveniently forgotten.

Why anyone would commit an indecent act in the open? Why would anyone speak brazen lie in front of an audience? If it is a king who committed indecency and lied then we watch and wonder. If it is a political leader in a democracy he faces removal from office in the next election.

If I fail to save a receipt, especially of my online payment of self-assessment tax then I will not be able to e-file my tax return because it is necessary to enter the BSR code and the Challan number in the Return. I can not retrieve payment information later without Challan no.

What did I accomplish by remaining silent? Did I save my breath? Hardly. I avoided quarrel thereby presumably prolonged my lifespan. If I speak out then my speech might provoke the listeners to take action, either good or bad. Even truth hurts. Timely words of wisdom are useful.

If my children misbehave either at home or outside, it reflects on how we parents erred in bringing them up. Our children are our incarnations; preservers of legacies; mother’s life inside as the driving fuel. They embody us both all their lifespan.

In fact the government is not always our own making. Responsibility of keeping citizens happy rests on all officers and staff of all departments appointed by government; local, state and central. The citizens only elect the representatives who may or may not form the government.

"Athithi Devo Bhava" is an old saying in Sanskrit. Athithi means unannounced guest. Devo is God. Bhava means "is". The unannounced guest is a God. Here I got to define a guest. A decent friendly person may be a guest and not anyone that come to our door. But why come unannounced?

I have been wondering if the principle of reservation in colleges and jobs is an assertion of principle of human rights. Both stress upliftment of the downtrodden only in terms of opportunity to live a happy healthy life. Both depend on action by those who are already 'uplifted'.

She has always wowed the world. He has been constantly trying to understand her. In a few decades she is going to be center-stage in managing the society, financially and all. He will make way for her rather than for his male rival.

My smartphone is extra smart. Some of the buttons are undesirably sensitive to the extent that even as my finger hovers over and makes a momentary contact, the button jumps to do its intended task, such as in Twitter, the 'like' button of a tweet I didn't mean to press. Damn it!

I am ashamed to say that anywhere and anytime I lived in a rural place throughout my life (some times for several years) did I think about the health hazards of open defecation until now a non-medical politician pointed out that ODF could be the cause for diseases. Why was it so?

Why is it that the roads everywhere are neat and clean? The signboards are in place and parks are maintained well? I think it is because now the tax money does not go into the pockets of the politicians or officials. People know how it happened. I hope this survives for all time.

The printing press transformed the world by enabling mass communication. Postal service helped word to word transmission of instructions and orders. Letters replaced verbal messages. Now digitization has ensured accuracy. Misinterpretation is the only available tool to misguide.

More I get involved in the distribution of benefits, more chances for me to favour my community, and even though I am supposed to be impartial, sometimes being under oath, yet I can't resist the temptation to first recognize my community people, my native place, my language, etc.

When I manage to finish my education I am expected to begin earning my livlihood. At present there are campus interviews which will eliminate the waiting period after the exam results are out. It is always better to take up a job first and then change if necessary.

A man's character is revealed very early in life. Like all offsprings in the animal world the child is expected to shake off the protective care of its mother by about 3 years of age. The fearless attitude and desire to be independent begins to show in a child when its character is pliant for molding by parents. Presently nursery schools admit children at 2-3 years of age.

Very few people get a chance to occupy positions of power in the government. I never occupied such a position. Therefore I can only guess how it feels. But, do you know why a sense of haughtiness creeps into minds of some of them and they harass their real masters, the citizens?

I think people must stop giving so much importance to history. We didn't witness all those horrible events of the past in person. What is written in the history books can't all be true. Not thinking about who did what in the past, allows me to plan my future based on my present.

For our security and unity, we don't need history; but we need geography, physics, chemistry, biology, maths, languages and many other subjects. Only relevant history that exclude horrors and atrocities be included in our primary learning. Deeper studies may be left for research.

When there is a death in the family, the surviving members, the neighbors and the community has a pressing job at hand: proper disposal of dead body. Death results in a vacancy which gets filled by a person who takes over the role of the dead.

I have seen more octogenarians now than I saw them before I turned 80 myself. I know it is only an illusion, but there are many over-80 people. After 80, a person becomes redundant and truly a burden on the society. All schemes are only to keep them comfortable and idle at home.

I was just thinking about you and I got your message. There are many words (such as love) and sentences that try to describe happiness but none of them suit our real perception of happiness. (I think the word love isn't enough). I need so many other things to be happy. Love is in the clouds. Not on the ground to earth in a cupboard.

I was wondering if I could be an innovator. But first I must understand the difference between innovation and invention. Innovation is application of a new idea that transforms the existing, into a different look and feel by applying new discoveries and inventions in the process.

I will not be able to perform my best if I don't get inputs from my friends and foes alike; provided it is me who makes the final decision; better after either a consensus or a majority vote. Even at home or at work, the outcome is more solid if there has been an open discussion.

"What's Wrong, Doctor?" is my novel available with Amazon, in which I have given how a doctor brings upon himself the onerous responsibility to lead a life of service to the society but gets bogged down with wading through the sea of opportunities and personal shortcomings.

Road accidents have become one of the major causes of death. Severity of punishment for breaking the Motor Vehicle laws has been increased to a level unheard of before. Quality of the roads has improved. The world can not run without vehicles. We got to put safety before speed.

When I post a tweet, I do so without tagging anyone; because, I don't want to convey my thoughts and ideas to any particular person, but I wish many people look at my tweets. Also those to whom my idea may apply. Hardly any one cares what I think. My tweets are not undisputable.

I was a 9-yr old boy when the British Government in London handed over the administration of India to Indians. There was sadness built-in, because the country was fragmented. Mangalore was in the Madras Province. The British allowed all languages to grow equal in Madras Province.

Value of a rupee against the dollar is important for those who have a foreign connection. In 1950s through 1980s the exchange rate was as determined by the government. It was allowed to vary with external market only later (somewhere around 1990s). It makes no difference to most.

I know that vegetarianism is a mode of life. Children of vegetarian parents living in a home in which only vegetarian food is cooked intensely dislike food that even remotely touches meat, foul, fish or even eggs. India is their heaven.

Personally, I don't like to live a life in which I would not be better than a vegetable, except perhaps if I would be able to retain a clear mind and know well my status/situation fully. I wouldn't even remember faces or places and won't be able to answer questions meaningfully.

Do I want development and progress? I can not do it all alone. For keeping our freedom to do it all our way, will only keep us hanging in the balance and left isolated. Let me and us join the strong and build a partnership for security and solace. Being alone makes me vulnerable.

Our future plans for which we allow more years to complete than our remaining life span, will become redundant and vain for us once we pass away. We won't be there to observe the results. There is no guarantee that our Spirit will oversee the process.

Natural calamities like the floods, wash away the old and fragile structures that come in the way of flood waters, in one go. I wonder if it is a blessing in disguise because if the rot were allowed to remain, then they might have caused more casualties; albeit slowly and subtly.

Not everyone knows that nothing is more satisfying than cooking food for the one whom you love. And him eat it with relish. But cooking and cleaning after eating could beat the love. Both the lover and the loved one become the losers; the eater left to cook and forget about love.

Taking care of a sick husband is a privilege of the wife especially if the husband is elderly. And she does not let the opportunity to slip out to express her love and loyalty to him. Generally it is a pleasure to nurse a sick person but more so to a husband. Not for all though.

Fake news is not limited to politics. It is rampant in medicine as well. Doctors are brainwashed into believing that the time-tested older reliable medicines cause liver or kidney damage to introduce newer drugs. Some rare minor damage is high-lighted to impress gullible doctors.

Festivals are enjoyable in company with family and friends. They help us to get over our blues and also to spend some time with people we wish to keep in contact. They do not always invite huge expenses. Community festivals are lively as in my article in this website.

The festival known as Yajurupaakarma is held on this day of Full Moon or Poornima in the month of Shraavana which usually falls in the month of August, during which a new sacred thread is worn by all irrespective of religion as per Swami Dayananda Saraswati.

Whenever I have to get some work done, have to go somewhere, have to talk to someone about certain matters, I use my learning, my past experience, take same successful previous path and sometimes ask someone for help, so that I don't return empty handed. I get my good work done.

For happiness and stability in life I encourage the youth to take up a familiar occupation, begin earning and saving money, get married, produce and bring up children, build a house and facilitate children to leave and live separately. This is Natural route to Nirvana and heaven.

It is better not to have any friends than have bad people as friends. For a young boy or a girl, the parents are the best friends next to elder siblings, uncles and aunts, cousins, school teachers and finally a good neighbour. We become what we are by the kind of company we keep.

What is the definition of 'partying'? It is not a 'political party meeting'; not as a 'religious prayer meeting'; the literature, print and electronic media define 'partying' as a meeting where massive consumption of alcohol takes place. I stay clear from such unhealthy partying.

Our genes are shaping our bodily functions in conjunction with our food habits, our local environment and our voluntary indulgence in social activities. Genes determine the aging effects to a large extent. Limiting food intake and regular exercise help me to maintain good health.

No human being or animal would be able to eat anything and everything. I notice that a lot of things are left untouched by animals after they apprise it by flipping over and by smelling it. There are poisonous things in many so-called foods. The mother selects the food for child.

I am thinking why there are thieves, robbers, fraudsters and cheaters in the world? A man looks around and finding no one looking, picks up the purse and pockets it. Even a child would steal eatables, while the mother is away. Rising above this corporal instinct is our salvation.

There must be clear-cut statements explaining major ideologies published for the benefit of the masses, especially if they are to be followed by the political parties' leadership and implemented if they form the next government. Short manifestos published in advance are helpful.

Postal department in any country is an enormous and huge public employer. To make the service available to the masses, apply a newer system technology and bring the essential service up to the modern level, by adding a banking duty should help. It is a novel workable application.

If there are no plans to go out of town for pleasure then there is no need to spend extra money. If I get bored after staying at home then I would rather read books that interest me. It is important to have a diversion from work and reading ebooks is easy and a good way to relax.

There is certain inevitability of serious conflict with my wife if she keeps abusing on the phone, my relatives from my parents' side for receiving gifts from me during our annual get-togethers. It is an unacceptable stand of grudge for her in-laws.

India is a conglomeration of many languages, traditions, religions, faiths, beliefs, etc., butfor the sake of unity as a Nation the citizens will have to come together and express their love and respect for the Nation in one way or another.

It is our self-esteem and self-respect that makes us do something every day and earn an honest living. If at all we begin even once to commit fraud, steal or rob, then our tendency will be to repeat the crime. The short-term affluence will soon be over and we end up behind bars.

There is certain inevitability of serious conflict with my wife if she keeps abusing my relatives from my parents' side on the phone, for receiving gifts from me during our annual get-togethers. It is an unacceptable stand of grudge against her in-laws.

There are always questions that keep coming in my mind; some of them are personal and others are those that crop up from my conscience. For some questions I got to find immediate solutions while others can wait. An elderly man has very few emergencies and his ideas are outdated.

To embark on a project it takes time to decide to even begin planning for it on paper. Once it is decided that the project will be launched and the financial resources are arranged, the project will soon take off. A planned event is a project for which many people eagerly wait.

There are many basic differences between science and religion. Science keeps evolving while religion can’t change its conditions. The society wants harmony and agreement for development of all, but this can't be accomplished unless religions facilitate. Development is a priority.

I will not give any importance to what the ancient books of religion or the philosophers of the recent or remote past said about a particular subject of life, death, birth, rebirth, heaven, hell, soul or spirit. I make up my mind by myself using my own knowledge and experience.

Opposition to my plans to hold the 2018 convention make me think again. Since my activities are more personal than affecting directly on my relatives with whom my planned events are connected, I am free to arrange the events in my own manner.

Ordinary people like me are not affected by the SC judgement on Sec 377, which affects a tiny miniscule group in this vast country. The judgement recognizes that the world has left behind, the teachings of many saints of yesteryears. Modern science has won a insignificant battle.

There are no problems really, but my mind searches for problems. I am sitting at home holding my smartphone in my hand and trying to write a long tweet but what should I write? My needs are meagre and all of them are fulfilled. Most contented life; no desirable scheme to take up.

I have passed 80, which indicates that I have gone through all difficulties that one encounters in one's life. But the period during which I traveled is most relevant. WW II had just started when I was born. My childhood suffered vagaries of the WW II but my parents protected me.

New Structure of Education proposed eliminates 9th to 12th classes from most of the career courses by making 8th class the end of schooling.

A majority of careers chosen by youngsters do not need subjects taught in present 9th to 12th classes, which only dislodge their ambitions.

When the youngster knows that subjects he is studying in the 9th to 12th classes are not going to be of any help to him he gets frustrated.

Those 14 yr old 8th pass youngsters who chose higher education are admitted into the courses meant for them in new Structure of Education.

The present Structure of Education with 10th class as the School Leaving (SL) is unsuitable for India of 2016. Make 8th class pass as the SL.

The British found a Structure of Education in India with 11th class as School Leaving (SL) class. 8th is better for India of the present.

Make 8th class pass as the School Leaving (SL) and diversify 9th onward for various careers including Medicine and Engineering.

People talk about schooling and learning being different and about need of a paradigm shift in our education system but not about how to do.

Making 8th pass as the School Leaving class followed by career-specific diverse classes would be a paradigm shift in our education system.

Make 8th pass the end of schooling and 9th the beginning of learning as to how to live with an occupation the student and his parents wish.

The class 9th to 12th is a long journey and about half of the students do not benefit from what they learn in them being inapt career wise.
First, man realized that his belief in a certain all-powerful protector does not protect him from the elements or the predators during his rest and sleep; therefore he built walls around him with fastened door. Outside his house man has to rely on goodwill of his fellow citizens.

I always keep thinking about my security. Food and water security are provided by the government. But, personal security is my responsibility. Health security depends on my dietary habits and if I am of sedentary or of yogic personality. Regular income is essential for security.

I wonder if my ancestors were aware that open defecation was responsible for the high infant illnesses and high infant mortality among them. They looked at the planets for the answers, example 'Balagraha'. Also unaware of bacteria and viruses.

Her: "Oh you are married. Hmm."
Him: "I know why I get into trouble. I should've stayed single."
Sign board: "Accommodation available. For live-in couples only" Marriage is out-dated.

Am I comfortable with what I do? I am not comfortable with what I do, but I have no other choice. If I become lazy and spend my time doing nothing, then I might be comfortable, but I won't last long. My nutrition and hygiene will deteriorate and due to disuse, I will get sick soon.

Not getting sound sleep after a rather hectic day is a warning that one or other of our activity was not right; such as food, drink or manners. I can't do anything if it was not in my control, but I am advised to avoid its repetition, by changing my ways so that I will sleep well.

I don't carry any weapon with me, like a knife, a pistol, or even a pouch of chilli powder, because if I do then I am more likely to use it when I get angry. I can talk and get into an argument, but I stay away from bad-mouthing others. I can try to flee from the spot. Civil way.

Like sleeping behind the wheel, one may fail to notice that danger lurks on the railway track. No one willingly falls asleep behind the wheel. Also no one strays on to a live railway track on purpose. Both are freak accidents, like an avalanche out of the blue, or a falling tree.

Falling asleep while driving a vehicle is a most unfortunate curse any innocent driver would endure. But, believe me, the driver wakes up within a couple of seconds if she/he had not consumed alcohol, I guess. If the road is nice, the chances are greater. Pull over and take rest.

I know death is scary. It is dreadful to see any one die. I know that before the heart stops beating the brain stops functioning, which results in loss of consciousness. Even if brain precedes heart, once unconscious, I can't feel pain. No fear of dying. Unconsciousness is bliss.

To what extent do I belong to this land? How much significant is the fact that I was born here or that my parents and ancestors belong to this earth? If my ashes are immersed in the waters of the region, I would be hailed as a local.

We play with words like Equality, Privacy, Liberty, Freedom, etc., which are more complicated than what they imply to an ordinary person. The interpretation in a legislative Act becomes the prerogative of the authorities.

In the 1870s (late 19th Century), Hindus, beginning with Swami Dayananda Saraswathi, tried to make changes in the Hindu traditional practices. Their reforms have been dgenerally accepted by Hindus. Knowledge has forced it; no stopping.

Some of the acts have to be done every day. Like brushing teeth. Some people read their prayers. Going to work might get interrupted by weekends and holidays, but meals can not be missed even for a few hours. We are bound to our body through requirements that keep us on our toes.

A civil society facilitates a secure and comfortable living for genuine residents. A genuine resident is one who contributes in some way to the society and promotes peaceful and harmonious bonds among the neighbours. Law and order department ensures the same. All of us cooperate.

Every one talks about change. But I don't find any change in the sun, moon, planets, seasons, nature and character of man or woman towards self or their behaviour. I have to look at the history, surveys, statistics and man-made reports to understand if any change has taken place.

To make life interesting, during free time, people watch TV or read a book. With smartphone around I read posts in social media. The last one is very handy, but I can't sift through pages like in a newspaper or change channels like in TV. Chatting with a friend is more enjoyable.

Building a structure anew is easier than repairing an old one. Old structures might be of sentimental value but unless they are built to last hundreds of years keeping them tiptop is almost impossible unless someone lives in it. Yet grandson would demolish it and build a new one.

I have many regrets in my life. Choosing career may be one of them. Choosing one's career must take place at the right time and at the right age. What things influenced my decision? Attitude and financial capacity of my parents under the then prevailing circumstances is primary.

Somehow, the education system, in which 11 years of schooling and the age of sixteen were considered enough for embarking on a career and age of fourteen and education till eighth class as adequate for most of the skill-learning, has been revived up by the present administration.

Eighty years is not a big deal, because, in terms of even a couple of centuries, experience gained from life of eighty years is inadequate to say the least. But, my instinct tells me that the law and punishment meted out to women is always much softer than that meted out to men.

I am a practicing Hindu, if you didn't know. My book Minimum Hinduism Practice,' sold in one paperback volume and in 4 ebook parts at www.amazon.com in 2008 give a fair account how big an elephant it is. Not easy to fathom well. Got to try.

I think it is wrong to attribute the illnesses to staple foods, the regular and routine consumption of certain mild stimulants such as coffee and tea, a limited number of beedis or cigarettes or chewing pan, etc. Everything under the sun could be blamed. Body can overcome these.

'Ease of Living' happens by two accounts: one, our obligations to the country, and two, liberal laws and regulations by the government, especially regarding consumption of staple foods, mild stimulants like coffee tea, a limited number of beedis or cigarettes or chewing pan, etc.
I don't think it is easy to decide if what the fellow did was right or wrong. There was no one at the site except him. We just have to believe what he says. If there was CCTV camera then we could see the recording. He doesn't own a mobile either. How can we come to a conclusion?

The question is how to earn money. Money is needed even to just get up and go. Can't go out without the walet. I keep my ID cards and enough loose change and currency notes with me when I am on the street. I accept any job because there are labor laws that protect me. Don't they?

Everyone likes to use his powers; powers of limbs, muscles, bones, power of speech, mind and various skills in order to make a living. To make a living one has to earn money, because, money can buy what we need to live perfect. To live well we should not suffer shortage of money.

I find that the most convincing statement is that the world is a drama and we are compelled to act out our roles, noble, evil or neutral'. We can act within the unwritten script and can't digress from the nature's tightly fixed plot. We alternately play the part of the audience.

I remember almost all my follies that I committed in my life but, hardly remember any of many advantageous, beneficial and good work that I have accomplished over the years. None of my mistakes have been as much highlighted by my friends or acquaintances as I myself silently do.

I have found that the seasons influence our activities to a large extent. Agriculture depends on the seasons thereby directing all other businesses to follow its momentum. Seasons depend entirely on the earth's, wind's, atmosphere's and water's whims, would you believe?

I think that it is impossible for a young man to defy nature and that he will always chase a woman no matter what rules the society imposes on him. And a woman will always seek attention from a man but t and c are applied. Men who subscribe to the t and c of the women, will flourish.

Festivals are the exultations of the people. Why do the dates of the festivals in India fall on different dates every year? The people follow the Indian calendar for the Hindu festivals.

Coming back to work after a vacation or a long weekend is kind of a curtain raiser for employees and an invitation to buck up for the long week ahead. For a self-employed person there is enthusiasm for reopening the office or store and make up for the lost time and collections.

What is cowardice? Causing death of innocent people and then running away from the scene is cowardice. Not helping accident victims sighting possible police harassment or charging the complainant with the offense by the police officers is cowardice. Being honest and true is not.

Giving examples is an accepted way to explain complex things. I have myself done it so many times. But the examples themselves could be questionable and not all parameters of the example sited would match the main subject. Knowledge can not be manipulated by unsuitable examples.

I have been learning from examples laid down by senior doctors. I think it is dangerous not write the case sheet as taught in the medical college; chief complaints, physical findings and diagnosis. Writing only the order for investigation and a prescription is not a good example.

Those doctors who do not write chief complaints, physical findings and diagnosis in the case sheet and only write the order for investigation and a prescription are shortchanging their patients. Insurance inspectors must reject their bills. Prior warning and publicity are useful.

I am pretty sure that life of mother is inserted in embryo as soon as its heart begins to beat. No such insertion of life can take place once the child is delivered. The heart-lung machine is not a substitute for the mother. Life can not sustain if any vital organ is defective.

Once I am dead I do not wish my body would be decorated and kept for so-called final viewing, because that is a waste of time and money. At the most a feast in memory of the departed may be held after a week or two for paying homage. A photo taken while alive is good for viewing.

The pleasure I experience by traveling to distant places is quite a lot. I must be prepared to undergo hardships but a well-informed companion would be of immense help.  Good plan and a positive attitude are essential because the routes and destinations might change unexpectedly.

Imagine how I lose respect if I get beaten up for my deed that I performed thinking that I am doing it for the purpose of art, literature, public good, etc., even get arrested for deeds not liked by some people. There is no guarantee that what I do would be liked by all people.

I have often wished to tell the truth; my opinion that I think is the truth. But my opinions often go against the tradition and vital practices of people who regard what I tell is not the truth; only a repeatingly visible, audible, tactile and natural thing is the absolute truth.

Our beliefs are ancestral. My belief is my present belief. After my generation my belief becomes ancestral. The latest belief is that Hinduism has adopted the Constitution of India as its principal tool to consolidate unity among Hindus.

I am stupid if I respond to an abusive profanity hurled at me as I walk on the street. I would rather run away from the spot. Of course, the occurrence would spoil my mood for a day or two, but in order not to give any value to the abuser, I am inclined to ignore it altogether.

I am stupid if I respond to an abusive profanity hurled at me in a social media post especially when I don’t know the identity of the abuser. Of course, the post would spoil my mood for a day or two. I ignore it, give no value to the abuse. My silence will be the best response.

Nationalism is allegiance to the Constitution, salute to the flag, attention to the national anthem and possessing such citizenship qualities. If a citizen can not say. "victory to my motherland" then he is either a child or a mute dumb person. I am an abiding Indian nationalist.

I am anti to stealing, cheating, verbally or physically abusing, knowingly spreading falsehood, insulting, making fun of the elders, etc. It is easy to become a bad citizen, create a law and order problem and lose respect. I try not to become a bad citizen and lose self-respect.

I can do many things with ease, a few things using my hands, a few other things using my brain, knowledge and/or experience. Most of the time the results are good or as expected. But sometime I fail. I have to lose money and materials. I repeat and succeed having learnt a lesson.

The universe, the people, the water bodies, the landscape, the food and often the weather is so very attractive and pleasant that I or any other person will not like to leave it (do not want to die). Yet a day will come when I or any other person has to exit. But never know when.

All of us want to stand in the front. No region in India likes to fall behind the others. Every language, every culture, art, craft, dress, dietary preference, etc., all wish to take equal part in the national activities. Equality and freedom means progress of all constituents.

Today's society has placed women on a high pedestal. Along with women, children and the elderly are also treated with respect. There is no doubt that the woman is physically weak. But no man likes to confront a woman.

I wouldn't worry too much of what happens to the world after another century or two. Man is quite capable of managing the situation as it then exists. In fact I would like to see myself the changes that take place. It is not going to be much different, even after a thousand years.

When I don't know the answer, I won't say, "I don't know." In stead I rant away my speculatory disquisition. In doing so I tinker my brain. I discover by discussion and argument. Like in my Amchigeli Konkani book in Devnagri script, "Meggele Tarka"

Along with improvement in education and widespread knowledge dissemination, the fear of the unknown and obsessive surrender to prayer lessens. Majority of atheists are intelligent people. Education is vital for a life of natural pragmatism.

Our action circle becomes smaller and smaller as we get older and older. Once there were thousands of people with whom I had to deal with in my vast circle of patients, friends and acquaintances. But now, at 80, my nerves and emotions have to contend with just a few relatives.

Since I don't practice I have more time to distribute around. I don't have deadlines set to complete any projects. When I accompany friends on rounds in the city I wait patiently till they finish visits with their friends, meetings or shopping. I have developed tolerance to wait.

If I want to drink water and by mistake I put very hot water in my mouth, I spit it out immediately. But if it is tolerably hot, I wait until it cools down. Similarly, before reacting to an abuse I let the abuser cool down. However we can't straighten a dog's bent tail. Pity me!

There are issues that are personal as well as public. Getting myself involved in public issues is not always necessary. One public issue I am concerned is casting my vote in the election for legislators, who form government at all levels. Government affects most societal issues.

Whenever I become angry at someone close to me and overcome with an urge to react by some kind of harm to that someone, I fail to take into account the consequences which naturally will be detrimental to myself. It is better to ignore the anger and try to negotiate an agreement.

Fortunately, for Hinduism, there is the Constitution of India to project as the new Book of Principles. Hindus were in majority in the Constitution Assembly and the Constitution reflects the latest beliefs prevalent in modern Hinduism. I hope Hindus unite under the Constitution.

Now I don't forget that in life everything takes time and waiting is an essential part of happy living. Haste brings misery. Hope shows way.I don't see poor people. I see only uneducated lazy people, people unwilling to study or work, people looking for a handout and free lunch.

I don't listen to my friends because they are all idiots like me and know much less about my problems than I do. Make moves after own study.

I am grateful to the land and its people among whom I live for my welfare and a successful, meaningful and productive day. The Bond of Land.

In an accident resulting in death, injury or survival, the survivors feel the future, which is most likely to be one they are thankful for.

People blame me as being selfish. But right from childhood, instinctively, I act mainly because I would gain from the event.

People say that nothing is permanent but it doesn’t mean that the sun will not rise tomorrow or that I won’t be hungry later or feel sleepy.

There is nothing absolutely perfect in the world; only better or worse. My greed, Interest  & effort make it better; ignorance make it worse.

I don't know if I plagiarised but what I said or did has been said or done by others, especially by my ancestors, in the past centuries.

If I don’t utilise my mind & body to the fullest advantage for myself and my community and depend on natural course then I lose my identity.

The Ruling on Privacy is a boost to a new India. I got right to remain silent and invisible except from Agencies giving me goods and services.

I couldn't interpret the Ruling on Privacy due to lack of definition but I lost my Privacy to my mum at birth, to my spouse upon marriage and to a doctor.

I now have an excuse. I can say, "you are killing my Privacy," and stop people from doing anything I don't like and file a case in court.

My book "Amgeli Arthavyavastha" (Our Economy) in Konkani language Kannada script for your review. Economy of any country depends upon the opportunities its population finds to harness the available resources for use on a permanent basis.

Parents are at a loss to know what to do if an 8th Pass 14 yr., old child not study well in the 9th class. Allow them to take up a safe job.

By refusing to allow 8th Pass 14 yr., old take up a safe job, India is denying itself a large human force from contributing to its G. D. P.

We fell into the trap well laid by competitors abroad that raised the bogey of child labour when they found our products were nosing them.

Everyone continues classes that are meant to prepare her/him for a career.
