TANJAVUR
By Mohan Shenoy

Where is Tanjavuru?

Tanjavur is located in the Tamil Nadu state of India, in the southern peninsula. Tamil Nadu occupies the southern part of the penisnsula except for the western coast where state of Kerala is located. On the north the state of Tamil Nadu is bound by the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnaataka.

As of 1st June 2012: I began my journey from Bangalore by bus from the bus stand (Majestic bus stand) by sleeper night bus at around 11 p.m. The bus passed through major towns along the route such as Hosur, Krishnagiri, Dahrmapuri, Salem, Karur and Tiruchirapalli, and reached Tanjavur at about 7 a.m. I took an autorickshaw and went to the nearest lodge, i.e., Ariya Vilas Lodge. I got myself freshened and went downstairs to the restaurant. I had my breakfast in this vegetarian restaurant of the lodge. I took an autorickshaw and went to the palace known as the Marhatta Palace situated about 4 kilometers from the lodge.
