TRIVENISANGAM
ALSO PRAYAG AND ALLAHABAD
By Mohan Shenoy

All three are situated within 5 kilometers of each other.

Triveni Sangam is a place where the two rivers Ganga and Yamuna join together. There was a third river Saraswati which has vanished after having dried up centuries ago.

To come to Triveni Sangam the nearest railway station is Allahabad Junction.

Taking a dip in the site where the three rivers join is considered a great opportunity for all Hindus,

OUR ITENERARY

We traveled from Bangalore to Allahabad by train.

At Allahabad we lived in a lodge 'Hotel Twins' which is about 200 meters from the Railway Station.

It is customary to go to the Triveni Sangam early in the morning at daybreak.

The distance between the railway station and the Triveni Sangam ghat is about 5 kilo meters.

If one is driving a car or hire a taxi then mobility is easy. But autorickshaw is convenient because the driver is familiar with the location and takes one directly to the place near the bank of the river Ganga for the dip.

It is better to bargain with the autorickshaw driver for the charge since there is no meter.

There are boats which take the pilgrims to the exact site where Yamuna joins Ganga River for a small charge.

The exact site is in the middle of the river. Puja may be performed by sitting in the boat. But to take a dip the boat takes the pilgrim to the edge of a shallow place.

We were satisfied by taking a dip on the bank and did not go by boat to the exact site.

Elaborate puja can be arranged with the priests and the experience is worth the money. Priests are on site.

ALLAHABAD IS RENAMED AS PRAYAGRAJ
